Santa Rosa’s Jake Arnold won the Multistars Decathlon in Desenzano, Italy, on Sunday with 7,994 points to beat runner-up Roland Schwarzl of Austria by 81 points.

Arnold, 25, trailed by 13 points entering the final day of the 21-man event and rallied with the top mark in the pole vault (16 feet, 6 inches), the fourth-best time in the 100-meter hurdles (14.28) and the fifth-best mark in the discus (144-11 3/4).

Arnold, the two-time defening U.S. indoor champion and an alternate on the 2008 U.S. Olympic team, has left for Austria, where he will compete at the Hypo Meet in Gotzis from May 30-31.
