Former Sonoma State football coach Tim Walsh has been hired as the head coach at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Walsh, who had served as the offensive coordinator at Army the past two seasons, led Sonoma State to a 27-14 record from 1989-92.

Cal Poly went 8-3 last year. The Mustangs beat San Diego State, 29-27 and lost at Wisconsin, 36-35, in overtime.

Walsh coached against the Mustangs when he was at Sonoma State and Portland State, where he had a 90-68 record from 1993-2006.
