The inspirational story of brothers Chris and Jordan Washington, wide receivers at Division III Occidental College who both starred at Point Arena High, is being featured on the “NCAA on Campus” TV show on ESPN Classic.

The Washington’s mother and father were both drug addicts who struggled to care for them. Their mother got clean and was sober for three years, but she died in a car accident when Chris was a sophomore at Point Arena and Jordan was in the eighth grade.

The brothers helped raise their three younger siblings and, in turn, they were raised by their grandmother, Linda Babson, and members of the Point Arena community: Don and Tania Greene and Jose and Sandra Oropeza.

The Washingtons will help lead Occidental (9-0) into the first round of the 32-team NCAA Division III playoffs against Willamette University (10-0) on Saturday in Salem, Ore. Chris Washington, a junior, has a team-high 47 catches for 573 yards and six touchdowns. Jordan Washington, a freshman, has 23 catches for 312 yards and one score.

“NCAA on Campus” will be aired on ESPN Classic at 1:30 p.m. Friday and at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 30.
