Santa Rosa Junior college wide receiver Brandyn Reed is expected to play on Saturday at Butte College despite suffering a rib injury in last week’s 38-31 overtime win against College of San Mateo.

Bear Cubs coach Keith Simons said Reed suffered bruised ribs and some cartilage damagae. It was initially thought that Reed had fractured ribs.

Simons said that Reed is practicing and plans to play, despite experiencing a fair amount of pain. Reed, who starred at Windsor High, has 40 catches for 732 yards and is tied for the state lead with 11 touchdowns this season.

The Bear Cubs figure to need Reed against Butte, which is allowing a state-best 210.7 yards per game and has 26 sacks, which also leads the state.
