Ross Middlemiss has been so good this season, he’s getting abused.

Middlemiss, SSU’s senior center forward, scored a school-record four goals in the Seawolves’ 5-0 win against Cal State San Bernardino on Friday and has 16 goals this year, the four-highest total in SSU history.

Middlemiss is enjoying his success, if not some of the treatment that’s come with it. He entered the season with 11 career goals.

“Some teams have come out and they start kicking me, throwing elbows, kicking me off the ball,” Middlemiss said. “San Francisco State was the worst. It was tough because I got a yellow card. They thought I was retaliating.”

Middlemiss is learning to live with his newfound attention. He figures he’s helping distract opponents while creating opportunities for his teammates.

“They can kick me and maybe I won’t score,” Middlemiss said. “But we have so many weapons. They can’t stop everyone unless they want to kick them all over the field, which is a pretty bold move.”
