Center fielder Tillman Pugh, a former star at De La Salle who signed with Arizona State out of high school, has transferred to Sonoma State.
Pugh, who will be a junior, batted .333 with 21 stolen bases at GateWay Community College in Phoenix this past season. He was selected in the 16th round of the Major League Baseball Draft in June. He was the 473rd player picked overall.
Pugh played at Arizona State as a freshman, but had just four at-bats for the Sun Devils. He was a two-sport star at De La Salle and rushed for 1,137 yards and 15 touchdowns as a senior.
Pugh is the second De La Salle alum to transfer to SSU this summer, joining junior pitcher Tyler Hess, who played at Pepperdine. Pugh and Hess were coached at De La Salle by Eric Borba, who played for SSU coach John Goelz and later served as an assistant coach for the Seawolves.
In addition to Pugh, University of San Francisco pitcher Kyle Lawton has transferred to SSU. Latwon, who will be a sophomore, had a 12.00 ERA in six innings at USF last year.
