Sonoma’s Tommy Everidge hasn’t just been called up to the big leagues — he’ll be in the starting lineup tonight when the Oakland A’s play the Red Sox in Fenway Park.
Everidge will bat seventh for the A’s and play first base. Right-hander Clay Buchholz (1-1, 3.72 ERA) is starting for Boston and the Red Sox will honor recent Hall of Fame inductee Jim Rice before the game.
Everidge will have a sizable cheering section. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, his parents, sisters, uncle and fiancee, Kellie Rodriguez, have flown in for the game. Sonoma State’s John Goelz, Everidge’s college coach, is also in attendance.
Everidge joins Cincinnati’s Jonny Gomes (Casa Grande) and Tampa Bay’s Joe Dillon (Cardinal Newman) as the only Sonoma County products in the major leagues.
