Sonoma State athletic director Bill Fusco received about 50 applications for the opening for a softball coach, a position vacated when Jaime Wallin went to Lafayette College in July.
Fusco whittled the field to four unnamed finalists and planned to interview each of them this week. He said he hopes to make a hire around the first day of school on Aug. 26.
Fusco said the opening received a huge response — 50 applications is a big number — and there were plenty of qualified candidates. I don’t doubt it. I know of a prominent name in softball circles who applied for the position and wasn’t a finalist.
Can’t say any more than that. But if this person didn’t get an interview, SSU must have four pretty decent finalists.
