Two seasons, two college bowl games – Al Netter is becoming accustomed to playing on national television.

The former Cardinal Newman High School standout is Northwestern University’s starting left tackle on offense. Netter and the Wildcats want a win against Auburn in today’s Outback Bowl after losing to Missouri in the Alamo Bowl a year ago.

When he takes the field at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Netter will be starting his 26th consecutive game for Northwestern – that is every game in two seasons for the redshirt sophomore.

At 6 feet 6 inches and 300 pounds, Netter worked on increasing his strength and speed heading into this season.

His improvement was recognized by conference coaches and media. Netter earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors.

Northwestern finished in a fourth-place tie in the Big Ten Conference with a 5-3 record.

Off the field, Netter was an Academic All-Big Ten honoree, helping Northwestern lead the conference in scholar athletes for the fall season.
