In winning the Big 8 Conference women’s basketball title, Santa Rosa Junior College placed three players on the all-league team including league Most Valuable Player Charlene Popoff.

Popoff is the Bear Cubs’ leading scorer, averaging 13.5 points a game, and top rebounder, with 8.3 per contest. The 6 foot second year player also was named to the California junior college all-state first team.

Jeanette DeWitt and Amanda Briare also received Big 8 all-league honors, and DeWitt was named second team all-state. DeWitt averages 13 points and 7.3 rebounds. Briare scores 9.4 a game and is second on the team in assists.

The Santa Rosa men’s team placed leading scorers Gerrell Knightshead and Jordan Freelander on the Big 8 all-league team.

Knightshead averages 17 points and 8.2 rebounds a contest. Freelander scores 11.9 per game, leads the Bear Cubs in steals, and is second in assists.

Santa Rosa finished third in the very competitive Big 8 Conference.

On the coaching side, women’s coach Lacey Campbell was named conference coach of the year. She received the same honor last season.
