For the second time this season, Sonoma State softball pitcher Julianne Martinez has been named the Worth/California Collegiate Athletic Association pitcher of the week, joined by teammate Rochelle Vanyi who was tabbed the league’s top player.

The pair powered Sonoma State to the title of the Tournament of Champions on Sunday. The Seawolves went 7-1 at the Turlock event, a prestigious matchup of some of the West’s best NCAA Division II teams.

Martinez was named most valuable player after going 4-0 with four complete games in six appearances, raising her record to 13-4 on the year. The freshman from John F. Kennedy high in Granada Hills ranks second in the conference with a 1.21 earned run average, and leads the CCAA in limiting hitters to a .204 batting average.

Vanyi, a junior transfer from Sierra College, moved up several league leader charts after batting .520 for the tournament and belting in 14 runs, including a game winning home run. She is second in the CCAA with a .674 slugging mark and 29 runs batted in, and third with a .402 batting average.

Ranked No. 14 nationally in NCAA Division II, the CCAA-leading Seawolves are 29-8 heading into a four games series against Cal State Stanislaus in Rohnert Park on Friday and Saturday.
