A league high six players from one of Sonoma State’s best softball teams ever have been named to the California Collegiate Athletic Association’s first and second teams.

Outfielder Simone Brandalise, third baseman Ashley Britton, and designated hitter Ali Palermo earned first team honors.

Second baseman Kayla Ledford, pitcher Julianne Martinez, and shortstop Rochelle Vanyi made the second team.

Brandalise is a four-year starter who batted .373 with 5 home runs and 35 runs batted in. Britton, also a senior, had similar numbers with a .363 batting average, 5 home runs and 38 RBI. A freshman, Palermo set a single season home run record with 9 while hitting .382 for the year.

Ledford, a junior, batted .313 to earn second team honors in consecutive seasons. Also a junior, Vanyi matched Palermo for the team home run record, and knocked in a Seawolves’ single season high 41 runs. Martinez, another freshman, recorded the league’s second lowest earned run average at 1.65 and was third with 17 wins.

Cal State Dominguez Hills shortstop Emiley McEwen was the league’s Most Valuable Player. Camille Gaito, UC San Diego, and Cal State Monterey Bay’s Diane Ortiz were named Co-Most Valuable Pitchers of the Year. Ortiz also was selected Newcomer of the Year and Britney Butler of Cal State San Bernardino was Freshman of the Year.

Andrea Kenney was chosen Coach of the Year after leading Cal State Monterey Bay to the CCAA regular-season title.
