Santa Rosa high defender Julianne McFarlin heads a list of additions to the Sonoma State women’s soccer team.

A two-time second team All-Empire player, McFarlin was Santa Rosa’s captain and most valuable player the past two seasons.

“We are very excited that J.J. decided to stay at home and play for us at Sonoma State,” Seawolves’ coach Luke Oberkirch said. “We have watched her for years and she is highly competitive. She has competed against a lot of top youth teams, which gives her a lot of valuable experience. J.J. is a tough tackler and is very focused on the field. She will be able to come in and help us out right away.”

McFarlin also was a California Interscholastic Federation Scholar Athlete.

Also joining the Sonoma State program are: Kate McFarland, Campbell Hall, North Hollywood; Alicia Mertz, Sandpoint High School, Sandpoint, Idaho; Megan Foy, El Camino Fundamental High School, Sacramento; Lauren Fryer, San Clemente High School, San Clemente; Allie Carlton, University High School, Irvine; Caitlin Witwer, Stockdale High School, Bakersfield; Caity Winterbottom, Aragon High School, San Mateo.
