Taking a nonconference road win in its season opener, the Santa Rosa Junior College women’s soccer team is off to a good start in hopes of returning to the state playoffs.

The win at Solano is the first of three away contests for the Bear Cubs, who next visit Santa Barbara on Friday. Santa Rosa’s first Big 8 Conference game is Sept. 24 at Sierra.

The Bear Cubs fell short in their quest to return to the California Community College Athletic Association’s Final Four last season. A second round loss to Cosumnes River ended Santa Rosa’s season at 14-6-2.

Santa Rosa won its third consecutive conference title last year.
