Sonoma State recorded a pair of important men’s soccer victories in a home and away series with Humboldt State and area prep standouts made major contributions.

Team-leading scorer Trevor Hurst, from Piner high and Santa Rosa Junior College, scored two goals and had an assist as the Seawolves stayed in the California Collegiate Athletic Association playoff hunt.

Roseland University Prep forward Erick Delgado booted a goal and served an assist in the Humboldt State contests.

Nico Spann, a redshirt freshman from Montgomery, had an assist in each of the wins. Another first year player, Taylor Varnadore, from Analy, served an assist.

Sonoma State blanked Humboldt State in the two wins. That gives senior goal keeper Juan Sosa, from Elsie Allen high, five shutouts on the season.

With the wins, Sonoma State improved to 10-5-1 overall and 8-5-1 in the CCAA.

The Seawolves have two matches remaining in the regular season, both on the road. Sonoma State is just behind Cal State Stanislaus in third place in the CCAA North Division with Chico State in first. Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State Dominguez Hills lead the south. The top four teams in the conference will qualify for the CCAA tournament with the winners of the North and South Divisions earning automatic bids.
