Former All-Empire forward Aly Henington has earned conference newcomer of the year basketball honors following her first season at Sonoma State.

Sonoma State’s center Aly Conway was selected to the California Collegiate Athletic Association second team.

Henington, a Maria Carrillo and Santa Rosa Junior College graduate, was second on the Seawolves in both scoring – 9.2 points a game – and three- point shooting. Henington topped the team in free throw percentage and pulled down nearly 4 rebounds per contest.

Those numbers were good enough to be named CCAA Newcomer of the Year.

Starting 20 of 27 games played, Henington was the team’s leading scorer in seven contests. Her high was 22 scored in Sonoma State’s home finale, a win over Cal State Dominguez Hills.

A 5 foot 10 junior, Henington was an All-Empire player at Maria Carrillo for the 2006-07 season.

Henington played two seasons for Santa Rosa Junior College. Last year, she helped Santa Rosa to the California women’s junior college final four. Henington was third on the team in rebounds and blocks and scored more than 6 points a game.

Earning CCAA second team honors was Conway, another Sonoma State junior. Conway scored 8.7 points a game – leading the conference in field goal percentage – and led the Seawolves with nearly 7 rebounds per contest.

Sonoma State finished 9-18 overall, 7-15 in league play.
