Following another trip to the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships, Sonoma State landed two players on the PING All-West Region Team.
Both senior Patrick Bauer and sophomore Alex Marry made the squad named by the Golf Coaches Association of America after helping lead Sonoma State to finish 11th in the 20 team field.
A four-time All-West Region selection, Bauer finished in the Top 10 in more than half of the 49 events he participated in, winning three. Bauer, from Colfax, finished second on the all-time Sonoma State list for best career stroke average — 72.99.
Bauer was named Sonoma State’s Male Athlete of the Year for 2010-11.
On the season Marry tallied five Top 10 finishes and ended the year averaging 73.7 strokes. Marry, from San Clemente, recorded Sonoma State’s lowest single round at the NCAA championships on the Fighting Joe Course at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at the Shoals in Alabama.
Sonoma State has appeared in the national tournament five times in the golf program’s eight year existence under head coach Val Verhunce.
