Post season honors for the Santa Rosa Junior College women’s volleyball team demonstrate the depth of talent on the state runner up squad.

Setter and second year standout Sam Siebert, from Analy High, was recognized at all levels. Siebert was a second team All-American, was All-State and made the All-Tournament team out of the final four. She also was an All-Big 8 Conference selection.

Right behind was sophomore outside hitter Taylor Young, out of Windsor High. Young also was an All-State selection, and made the All-Big 8 Conference team.

Joining Siebert on the All-Tournament team was sophomore outside player Karimah Hay, from Rancho Cotate, and also freshman outside hitter Olivia Urban, out of San Marin. Hay and Urban were All-Big 8 Conference team selections as well.

Coach Kelly Wood, who has led Santa Rosa the past decade, was chosen Northern California Regional Coah of the Year after earlier being recognized as the Big 8 Conference’s top coach.

The accolades were well deserved as Santa Rosa went 30-4, finishing second in the California Community College Athletic Association championships. Santa Rosa for a second consecutive season lost to L.A. Pierce (33-0) in the title match, at Shasta College.

After earning the second seed for the Northern California regionals, Santa Rosa won twice to reach the state final four.

Drawing L.A. Pierce in the opening match, Santa Rosa fell in five sets. But the Bear Cubs battled back to win a pair of loser’s bracket matches and reach the championship contest.
