A pair of Sonoma State pitching aces — Thomas Lee and Samantha Lipperd — won conference honors Monday following great outings.
Seawolves right hander Lee has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week. A senior from Bakersfield, he went seven shutout innings Friday against San Francisco State, allowing just one hit and striking out six.
Lee is 5-0 on the season with a 1.16 ERA and is on pace to set school records for earned run average and strikeouts. In his Sonoma State career, Lee is 14-5 with a 2.97 ERA. His 176 career strikeouts are just 22 off the school record.
Sonoma State leads the CCAA. The Seawolves play at UC San Diego this weekend.
Lipperd was named CCAA Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. Lipperd struck out 104 of the 200 batters she faced in 53.2 innings of work at the 24-team Tournament of Champions, in Turlock. She pitched every inning of every game as Sonoma State went 6-1 in the tournament, including a no-hitter over Hawaii-Hilo.
Earlier in the week, Lipperd pitched Sonoma State to a pair of wins over Cal State San Bernardino.
A junior from Boulder Creek, Lipperd is 21-7 with a 1.44 ERA and 266 strikeouts this season. She earned All-American honors last season after setting a school record with 324 strikeouts and 26 wins.
The Seawolves are home this weekend, hosting UC San Diego both Friday and Saturday.
