Sonoma State is adding a handful of past athletic greats to the school’s hall of fame ranks.
Tony Bussard, Joy Durand, Vince Inglima, Ed Millerick and Maura Pengel make up the 2012 class to be inducted into the SSU Athletics Hall of Fame. They will be honored at a September event in Rohnert Park.
Tony Bussard: A Clear Lake High graduate, Bussard played four years on the SSU men’s soccer team. Bussard, an all-conference player and the eighth-leading goal scorer in school history, helped lead the the Seawolves to the NCAA Division II soccer title in 2002.
Joy Durand: The Ursuline High graduate was a two-sport standout. In women’s soccer, she led SSU to the 1998 NCAA Division II championship game. On the basketball court, Durand helped lead the women’s team to the first conference championship in school history and an NCAA tournament appearance.
Vince Inglima: Out of Carson City, Nev., Inglima is the lone All-American in Sonoma State men’s basketball history. In two seasons with the Seawolves He led the conference in free throw shooting as a junior and led the team in scoring as a senior as SSU won the school’s first CCAA title and reached the 2006 NCAA Division II championship tournament. Inglima played professionally for several years in Australia.
Ed Millerick: The Analy and Santa Rosa JC pitching great earned All-American honors at Sonoma State in 1990. Owner of Sonoma State’s fourth-best career ERA (2.38), Millerick helped lead the Seawolves to the first two conference championships in SSU baseball history. Following his two years at Sonoma State, Millerick played several years in the minor leagues.
Maura Pengel: A scoring machine her two seasons at Sonoma State, Pengel — out of San Francisco and Santa Rosa Junior College — led Sonoma State to the first conference women’s basketball tournament in program history in the 1989-90 season. The year before, Pengel led the conference in scoring. Pengel holds the top two single-season scoring marks and her career total of 983 points is fifth all-time.
The Hall of Fame ceremony is Sept. 22 at Sally Tomatoes, 1100 Valley House Drive, Rohnert Park. A no-host reception is set for 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
