Completing another standout college cross country season, former Empire great Reesey Byers had the fastest time by a Sacramento State runner at the West Regional.
Now in his third year at Sacramento State, the onetime Santa Rosa high standout ran a 30:28.34 at the NCAA West Regional, in Seattle. Byers finished 42nd in the men’s race — third highest for the meet in Sacramento State history. Both marks were improvements over Byers’ team leading effort at last season’s regional championships.
Earlier at the Big Sky Conference finals, Byers led the Sacramento State men to a fifth place finish.
With the track season ahead, Byers already has some of Sacramento State’s all-time best distance marks. Byers has the top time in the 5,000 meter run. His best 1,500 mark is seventh in the Sacramento State record books.
