Santa Rosa Junior College women’s basketball standouts Arianna Hanson and Whitney Edens earned honors after helping lead the Bear Cubs to another great season.

Hanson, a sophomore forward out of Rincon Valley Christian, was named second team in the CCCAA after she was selected first team in the Big 8.

The second-leading Bear Cubs scorer, Hanson led Santa Rosa in rebounding and averaged two blocked shots per game.

At Rincon Valley Christian, she was a first team All-Empire small schools selection.

Leading scorer Edens also was named first team for the Big 8 Conference. Edens, a sophomore from Cloverdale, helped pace the Bear Cubs defense with two steals per contest.

A sophomore from Cloverdale high, Edens was All-Empire small schools player of the year.

Santa Rosa coach Lacey Campbell was named both Big 8 Conference and Northern California coach of the year.

Defense was Santa Rosa’s signature on the season. The Bear Cubs led the state by allowing fewer than 45 points per contest and also held opponents to the lowest shooting accuracy at 31 percent.

Finishing 27-7, the Bear Cubs reached the state final four for the third time in the past four seasons, including the 2011 title. Santa Rosa fell in this season’s state semifinals.
