Santa Rosa’s Jake Arnold (Maria Carrillo, ‘02), a two-time NCAA decathlon champion at the University of Arizona, will compete at the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Ore., starting Sunday.
Arnold, 24, has a decent chance to qualify for the Summer Olympics in Beijing — the top three qualify and Arnold’s personal-best score (8,215 points) is the fourth-best in the field.
Regardless of Arnold’s performance, however, he figures to be …

SSU senior pitchers Matt Means and Kevin Asselin could be selected Friday in the Major League Baseball Draft, but Sonoma State should have no shortage of talented arms next year. Here’s a look at three promising picthers who weren’t on the 2008 roster:
Joey Parigi, LHP/OF, Arizona State: Parigi, 20, was a three-time all-state selection at Monterey High where he went 33-2. He had an 0.00 ERA as a junior and …

Sonoma State second baseman David Adler will never be featured on an instructional fielding video. Some infielders are described as “slick.” Adler could fairly be decribed as less-than-completely-aesthetically pleasing.
