Nevada junior center fielder Westley Moss, a native of Irving, Texas, who played two years at Santa Rosa Junior College, was selected in the 34th round by the Cleveland Indians on Thursday.
The 6-2, 165-pound Moss hit .305 with 15 steals at Nevada. In his career at SRJC, he hit .281 with 22 steals.

University of San Diego junior right-hander Matt Thomson (El Molino) was drafted in the 12th round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday by the Detroit Tigers.

UC Davis distance runner Sarah Sumpter (Healdsburg) has been named the Aggies’ Freshman of the Year.
Sumpter finished fourth in the 10,000 meters at the Big West Conference Championships. Her time of 36 minutes, 35.03 seconds ranks 10th in school history. Sumpter won the Division IV cross country state title as a senior at Healdsburg High.

Sonoma State senior Jarin Todd and sophomore Patrick Bauer have been named second-team All-Americans by PING and the Golf Coaches Association of America after leading the Seawolves to the Division II national championship.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo outfielder D.J. Gentile (Casa Grande) was selected in the 43rd round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Cleveland Indians and Sonona State pitcher Gary Moran was selected in the 41st round by the San Francisco Giants.
Gentile, who will be a redshirt junior, hit .304 with five homers and 41 RBIs for the Mustangs, who went 37-21 and reached the NCAA Tournament.

Sonoma State sophomore point guard Ashley Arnott is expected to play next season after undergoing offseason surgery for a back injury.
Arnott, from Australia, sat out last year after injuring his back in an exhibition against the University of Arizona. Arnott, who has two bulging discs, undwerent microscopic surgery in March. SSU coach Pat Fuscaldo said doctors told Arnott he could be full recovered in five or six months.

Seawolves women’s water polo coach Coralie Simmons has been selected to be an assistant coach on the women’s senior national water polo team. Simmons will help guide Team USA at the World Championships in Rome this summer.
Simmons was a two-time National Player of the Year in 1997 and ‘98 at UCLA, where she played under current U.S. National Team coach Adam Krikorian.
