Former Sonoma State softball coach Jaime Wallin, who resigned to become the head coach at Division I Lafayette College earlier this month, said it was a difficult decision to leave Rohnert Park.
OK, I know, what else is she going to say, right? But Wallin has some
legitimate reasons to regret leaving.

And his former coach at SSU, John Goelz, was there.

Tommy Everidge, 26, a former star at Sonoma Valley High and Sonoma State, is expected to be officially called up by the Oakland A’s on Tuesday after hitting .382 with nine homers and 32 RBIs in 43 games at Triple-A Sacramento.

The odds of two 20-somethings from a town of 9,000 both making the big leagues are probably pretty long.
But what are the odds of those two guys from the same town also playing for the same big-league team, in the same infield? Well, it hasn’t happened yet but the A’s trade of Matt Holliday to the Cardinals on Friday brought them highly touted third baseman Brett Wallace, the organization’s second high-level prospect from Sonoma.
