Heading into Sonoma State’s second NCAA Division II College Baseball Championships appearance, Seawolves players and head coach John Goelz received All-West Region recognition.

Junior first baseman ‘O’Koyea Dickson, senior short stop Alex Todd and senior pitcher Kenny Arnerich earned First Team All-West Region honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Named Second Team All-West Region was senior outfielder Kyle Jones. Both Dickson and Jones also earned Gold Glove awards this season for their outstanding defense.

Earlier, the four Seawolves’ standouts were named to the Daktronics, Inc. and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-Region Teams.

Goelz was named the American Baseball Coaches Association West Region Coach of the Year. Goelz, in his 26th year with Sonoma State, received the same honor in 2008, when the Seawolves captured their first West Region title.

Sonoma State took its second region title on Sunday and is 36-20 going into the Division II championships at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. The Seawolves open against Grand Valley State on Sunday at 10 a.m. PDT. The week-long, eight-team tournament begins Saturday.
