For the second consecutive season, the Sonoma State women’s golf team will play in the NCAA Division II West Regional Women’s Golf Championship Tournament.

The Seawolves are seeded fifth in the nine-team tournament to be played at the Tascosa Country Club in Amarillo, Texas on May 2-4. Sonoma State finished eighth in last year’s regional.

The top three teams after 54 holes advance to the national championships at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz., held May 12-15.

Ranked 13th in the most recent National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division II Coaches poll, the Seawolves won three tournaments and finished second in three others. Sonoma State never finished lower than fifth.

“They’ve been rock solid, just real consistent all year,” said Sonoma State coach Val Verhunce. “We look for chemistry and team support and for them to push each other.”

Leading the Seawolves this season is Spencer Heller with the team’s lowest scoring average. Heller has finished in the top ten in all but two of Sonoma State’s 11 tournaments.
